On the 10 January at 21-34 hours, Windsor and Slough were mobilised to a fatal house blaze at Straight Road, Old Windsor (Incident number 10148)
The elderly male occupant had originally left the property but then returned into the building and was lethally overcome by smoke.
The Windsor and Slough appliances were each mobilised from their respective stations at the same time (above).
The Windsor appliance arrived at the scene at 21-39 hours (5 minutes from turn-out) whilst the Slough appliance arrived at 21-43 hours (9 minutes from turn-out).
As you may appreciate, time factors correlate with injury, death and the extent of damage to property. If Windsor Fire Station was to close at night, it is plainly clear that Slough will take longer to attend. It is also worth highlighting the fact that major road-works are to commence upon the main route from Slough to Windsor. The Relief Road will have restrictions-particularly at night – for a period of 1 ½ years
However, there is a bold assumption that Slough would actually be available – they are a busy station and may well be attending their own calls, so another pump from further afar may have to be called to Windsor. That would take even longer…
