High Rise Building Arson Attacks

December 21st, 2009 · No Comments · Operational Information

Undoubtedly those residing within high rise accommodation may feel vulnerable following media reports of severe blazes recently in London. There are risks too for Firefighters as demonstrated by the deaths of two crew members in a Hertfordshire high rise dwelling a few years ago.

In Windsor we have four high rise buildings forming part of the Sawyers Close area. The Windsor appliance is always first to attend any incident there. The value of that appliance has been particularly prominent in recent weeks.

On the 29 November at 01-34 hours a fire was deliberately started in the lobby area at the Hale block. Then on 04 December another fire broke out by the refuse area at 00-03 hours within that same block. Then on 11 December at 22-29 hours the Hale block was once again subject to a fire in the same area.

Each call was at night and each call was attended first by the Windsor crew. If the Royal Berkshire Fire Authority proposals go ahead, there will be NO night cover at Windsor in the future.

Finally, the Windsor crews attended another incident within this area on 07 December at 05-00 hours. This involved a male being rescued from a suicide attempt within the Broadleas block.
